ASLE-CCCC
"...Ecocomposition is about relationships; it is about the coconstitutive existence of writing and environment; it is about physical environment and constructed environment; it is about the production of written discourse and the relationship of that discourse to the places it encounters."
-- Weisser, Christian R., and Sidney I. Dobrin. "Breaking New Ground in Ecocomposition: An Introduction."
What is ASLE-CCCC?
CCCC stands for the Conference on College Composition and Communication.
The ASLE-CCCC Special Interest Group (SIG) held its first meeting during the CCCC Conference in Atlanta in March, 1999. It is designed to bring together Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) members who have an interest in composition, rhetoric, literacy studies, and the teaching of writing and reading.
Our general purposes are twofold:
1. to promote environmental concerns within composition studies,
2. to represent the interests, recognitions, and methods of composition studies within ASLE.
Pending approval by CCCC, there will be a SIG at the 2009 meeting in San Francisco, March 11-14, 2009. The topic of discussion will be the ways we can achieve more visibility for ecocomposition and related approaches at CCCC and in the wider profession. We will also consider the invitation we received last year to participate in the Progressive SIGs and Caucus Coalition of CCCC (PSCC), which meets every year on the Wednesday of the conference.
Past ASLE-CCCC SIG meeting topics are listed in the archives link below.
If you are interested in proposing an eco-composition related panel or paper for CCCC or want to find out more about the organization please contact Anthony Lioi (alioi [at] juilliard [dot] edu). You may also join our ASLE-CCCC List-serv to receive more information.
Anthony Lioi is also available to advise graduate students about the process of crafting a successful paper or panel proposal for the 2010 conference (2009 deadline has passed). Please contact him to request help no later than a month before the proposal deadline, which is usually in April of the prior year.
