The Bloomsbury Companion to Queer Studies

Section: Environmental Entanglements

Deadline: October 31, 2020

Proposals for essays that engage the intersection of queer studies and the environment are invited for consideration in one of four sections to appear in The Bloomsbury Companion to Queer Studies. This section–in mode with ecofeminism, woman of color ecofeminism, and queer and trans ecologies–seeks to further query the ways in which environmental discourses, fixtures, and texts can be approached by queer studies. In addition, the essays will reframe and revisit notions of the human, the inhuman, the more-than-human, and the “anthropos” through intersectional queer lenses. By offering a queer purview of these intersections, we envision how an environmental focus makes porous different subject and object positions with particular attention to the queer utopian/dystopian possibilities that may result from such a blurring of boundaries, especially as they may inflect conceptions of race, gender, ability, embodiment, and sexuality. We are especially interested in showcasing junior scholars whose creative, rigorous, and genre-bending work can allow us to brilliantly imagine what these different queer intersections may portend for the future(s) of queer studies and its enmeshment with environmental thinking. Proposals from any discipline and scholars at any career stage are welcome.

300-word abstracts, a 1-paragraph biosketch, and brief CV are due via email by October 31, 2020. Decisions will be made by November 15. Full essays will be due in mid-late 2021.

Questions or inquiries can be directed to the section editor, Jeremy Chow, who can be reached at j.chow@bucknell.edu
