Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA) ASLE 2019 Panel

Deadline: August 12, 2018
Contact: Bridgitte Barclay, SFRA
Email: bbarclay@aurora.edu

We are seeking submissions for the ASLE-SFRA panel at ASLE 2019, running June 26-30, 2019 at the University of California, Davis. SFRA and ASLE have an established relationship and SFRA members are guaranteed one panel focused on intersections of science fiction and ecological concerns and criticism at each major conference.

“Paradise on Fire” is the 2019 theme. One of the plenary addresses will be given by Nnedi Okorafor, and the ASLE call for panels invokes Margaret Atwood and Octavia Butler, so the event is primed for SF presentations.

If you would like to propose a paper or roundtable, please contact Bridgitte Barclay (bbarclay@aurora.edu) and Andrew Hageman (hagean03@luther.edu). They are the SFRA/ASLE liaisons and will facilitate putting together the panel.

The conference invites panels of traditional papers (4 people), roundtables (6 people), or jam sessions (8 people). We can help put together whatever format seems best suited to the volume and directions of interest expressed to us.

Please send us your paper title and abstract as well as 1-2 potential panel titles or themes. Feel free to connect with others and propose a complete panel to us.

Panel proposals are due September 1, 2018 so we ask that individuals contact us by August 12, 2018.

This promises to be an excellent conference, and we look forward to helping assemble one if not many SF/eco conversations.
