2015 ASLE Grants Awarded

ASLE is proud to announce the winners of our ASLE grants in three categories. Community Grants seek to support projects that will help build connections between the environmental humanities and place-based environmental organizations working outside the academy. Translation Grants were established in order to support work in ecocriticism from international scholars and to expand exchanges across cultures and continents. ASLE 2017 Conference Location and Dates Announced

ASLE is very pleased to announce that our next Biennial Conference will be held at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, from June 20-24, 2017.  We look forward to visiting this revitalized and dynamic city.  The organizing team from Wayne State University will partner with faculty from nearby Oakland University and The University of Michigan to bring the richest and fullest experience possible to attendees.  Look for a Call for Papers next summer, and more details here at the web site as they ...

Community Grant Report from Backyard Harvest

In 2014-2015, The University of Idaho’s Department of English and local nonprofit organization Backyard Harvest, Inc. (BYH) received a $5,000 Community Grant from ASLE. They worked together to articulate explicit, compelling connections between local food systems, food security, and environmental justice and sustainability.

The grant assisted BYH in enhancing its communication effectiveness and outreach to the local community. The funding allowed them to hire Jake McGinnis, a graduate student enrolled in the University of Idaho’s English department, who worked with Backyard Harvest to develop ...
