As a small nonprofit organization, ASLE relies on the participation of our members in the governing and operations of our association. Serving on our leadership team gives you an opportunity to give back to the organization, and to help shape our future direction and mission.
ASLE will be holding elections this fall for President, two open Executive Council seats (one designated for the Contingent/Independent Advocacy representative), Diversity Officer, and Graduate Student Liaison (junior). Online voting will be conducted during the month of November.
If you would like to nominate yourself or another ASLE member for one of these positions, please contact us at [email protected]. Candidate statements, of approximately 500 words for Presidential candidates, and approximately 300 words for all other positions, are due by October 27. Please feel free to send a query if you have any questions about the offices, duties or statements.
The President is elected for a two year term. The President will also serve the Association for an additional year as Immediate Past President, therefore it is a three year total commitment. The President will preside at meetings of the ASLE officers, Executive Council, and the general membership, guide the organization in many capacities relevant to our mission, and will organize the biennial conference. Please note that for the past two cycles we have elected co-presidents, so a co-candidacy is an option.
The Executive Council (EC) is the primary policy-making body of ASLE. The six EC members review programming, procedures, and policies regularly and revise them as needed to meet the Association’s purposes most effectively.
Two new EC members, one at-large and one in the Contingent/Independent Advocacy representative seat, will be elected this year to serve a three-year term. Candidates for the Contingent/Independent Advocacy position will benefit from having experience working on issues or advocacy relevant to contingent faculty or independent scholars.
The Diversity Officer oversees and participates in the activities of the Diversity Caucus to reach across national, disciplinary, cultural, sex/gender, and other boundaries to enhance diversity and inclusiveness for ASLE. The Diversity Officer is an elected position and serves a three-year term.
Graduate Student Liaison
The two Graduate Student Liaisons (GSLs) represent the interests, needs, and concerns of ASLE’s graduate student members. One GSL will be elected for a two-year term per year, serving as non-voting junior GSL in the first year, and voting Senior GSL in the second year of their term. The senior GSL will stay on as a consultant through the next biennial conference cycle to provide mentoring and guidance.
