Panel at ASLE 2025: Collective Atmospheres
July 8-11, 2025
University of Maryland, College Park

This panel takes up air pollution in Asian texts both as a material substance and as a metaphorical strategy for narrating environmental harm. We welcome proposals on Asian literature or film. We currently have 2 presenters working on Japan and 1 presenter on China. The current panelists intersect with issues of environmental justice, the invisibility of pollution and its victims, and airborne illnesses as a metaphor for radioactive contamination. We would welcome proposals on topics including industrial pollution, mining, smog, radiation, etc. in Asia.

Send 200 word abstract and 150-word biographical statement to rdinitto@uoregon.edu by December 1, 2024.
