OPEN CALL FOR POETS IN/OF THE SOUTHERN CONE
Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and their borderlands
We are in the process of compiling an anthology of ecopoetry which offers an artistic, ecological, and political response to climatic, social, and linguistic changes in the Southern Cone region.
What is happening in the region(s) you call home? How has the landscape been altered? What toxins are you and your community exposed to on a regular basis? How do ongoing environmental challenges influence the lives of people, animals, plants, elements, and minerals in your environment? We are looking for poets interested in examining their surroundings and asking similar questions. Let these prompts serve as a starting point for poetic responses to everyday ecological problems, for interrogating and defamiliarizing innumerable systemic forms of climatic, political, racial, and linguistic oppression. With this anthology, we seek to use poetry to draw attention to a range of intersectional problems related to the current ecological crisis.
Ecopoetry is a way of looking, thinking, and reading. A form of writing that de-centers the traditional lyrical ‘I’ and allows the voice of neighboring communities to enter the poem. This open call is an invitation to a decolonial, anti-capitalist, anti-extractivist, and anti-speciesist poetics, one that emerges from and is rooted in the multifaceted ecosystems we collectively inhabit. Organized by climate regions, this project proposes poetry as a means of archiving and resisting the disappearance of biological, cultural, and linguistic diversity in the midst of a global climate crisis. We are not interested in pastoral or nostalgic works about pristine nature, but instead invite poetic expressions whose worldviews help us to think about the present moment from perspectives of transnational, multiracial, interspecies, and multilingual solidarity.
We invite submissions written in: autochthonous languages and their dialects, creole and maroon languages, and Spanish, as well as bilingual and multilingual works. Submissions should focus on a specific region of the Southern Cone, and be sent as a Microsoft Word document at least ten pages in length (Times New Roman, 12 pt. font). Submissions may include multiple poems, especially those thematically linked by a particular region, & or a single long poem. Although we will privilege unpublished poems, we will consider previously published work; the author is responsible for obtaining the necessary rights and permissions related to reprints in advance of submission. The deadline for submission is March 31, 2022. Selected pieces will be published as part of the anthology and featured contributors will receive an honorarium of USD $100.

CONVOCATORIA ABIERTA PARA POETAS DEL CONO SUR
Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay y zonas fronterizas
Estamos preparando una antología de ecopoesía que funcione como una respuesta poética, ecológica y política a los cambios climáticos, sociales y lingüísticos del presente en el Cono Sur.
¿Qué pasó en tu zona? ¿Cómo cambió el paisaje? ¿A qué veneno estás expuestx? ¿Cómo influyen los cambios medioambientales en la vida de las personas, animales, plantas y recursos naturales de tu bioregión? Buscamos poetas que puedan detenerse a mirar sus ecosistemas y hacerse preguntas. Que esas preguntas disparen escrituras que respondan a los problemas ecológicos que enfrentamos día a día. Que ese movimiento provoque una extrañeza sobre las formas de opresión climática, política, racial y lingüística que se volvieron sistemáticas. Buscamos llamar la atención sobre los problemas interseccionales de la crisis ecológica actual desde la potencia de la poesía.
La ecopoesía es una forma de mirar, pensar y leer. Una forma de escritura que descentra al yo lírico tradicional para dejar entrar en el poema a la voz de comunidades extendidas. Esta es una invitación a poéticas con perspectivas decoloniales, anticapitalistas, anti extractivistas y antiespecistas de los ecosistemas que habitamos. Organizado por regiones climáticas, este proyecto se plantea como una reflexión urgente sobre la desaparición de la diversidad del Cono Sur en medio de una crisis climática global. No buscamos obras literarias nostálgicas ni pastorales sobre la naturaleza virgen, sino expresiones que nos ayuden a pensar el presente desde una solidaridad transnacional, multirracial, interespecie y multilingüística.
Aceptamos poemas en lenguas originarias y sus dialectos, lenguas criollas, versiones bilingües y multilingües, y en español. Buscamos poéticas que se centren en una región específica y tengan una extensión mínima de diez páginas en formato word. La aplicación puede incluir diferentes poemas unidos por el mismo tema o un solo poema largo. Si bien privilegiamos trabajos inéditos, se podrán enviar poemas publicados si se cuenta con permiso de reedición. Las obras seleccionadas formarán parte de un libro y recibirán el equivalente a USD$ 100 en moneda local al momento de pago.
