2015 ASLE Grants Awarded
ASLE is proud to announce the winners of our ASLE grants in three categories. Community Grants seek to support projects that will help build connections between the environmental humanities and place-based environmental organizations working outside the academy. Translation Grants were established in order to support work in ecocriticism from international scholars and to expand exchanges across cultures and continents. ASLE 2017 Conference Location and Dates Announced
ASLE is very pleased to announce that our next Biennial Conference will be held at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, from June 20-24, 2017. We look forward to visiting this revitalized and dynamic city. Community Grant Report from Backyard Harvest
In 2014-2015, The University of Idaho’s Department of English and local nonprofit organization Backyard Harvest, Inc. (BYH) received a $5,000 Community Grant from ASLE. They worked together to articulate explicit, compelling connections between local food systems, food security, and environmental justice and sustainability.

ASLE’s Eleventh Biennial Conference, entitled “Notes from Underground: The Depths of Environmental Arts, Culture and Justice,” was held June 23-27, 2015 at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. ASLE is very excited to announce the winners of the 2015 ASLE Book Awards. The awards, in the areas of ecocriticism and environmental creative writing, recognize excellence in the field. The official presentation of certificates and $500 cash prizes will take place during the Authors’ Reception at the 2015 ASLE Biennial Conference at the University of Idaho, on Wednesday, June 25, 2015.

2014 has been another busy year for ASLE (UK and Ireland). We ran a major ASLE-UKI conference in Ireland for the first time, with our postgraduate conference hosted by University College Dublin in July 2014 and ably organised by our postgraduate representatives Michael Paye of UCD and Emma Curran of the University of Surrey. Judges have announced the finalists for the 2015 ASLE Book Awards. The ASLE book awards in the areas of ecocriticism and environmental creative writing recognize excellence in the field.
Winners will be announced in early June, and the official presentation will be at the Eleventh ASLE Biennial Conference, to be held at the University of Idaho from June 23-27, 2015.
