2022 ASLE Book Award Finalists Announced
Judges have announced the finalists for the 2022 ASLE Book Awards. The awards, in the categories of ecocriticism and environmental creative writing, were established in 2007 and have been given biennially to recognize excellence in the field. The 2021 awards were postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic. This year, because of the delay and the high number of excellent submissions, two winners will be chosen in each category.

ASLE has lost one of its founding leaders and great supporters. From 1965 to 1995, Glen Love taught in the English Department at the University of Oregon, where he specialized in American literature and began developing new courses in Northwest literature, Western American literature, and literature and environment in the 1970s. ASLE Statement on the War in Ukraine
ASLE opposes the illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Ukraine is a sovereign state with a distinct history, language, and culture. Russia has no right to colonize Ukraine. We stand against imperial wars and the social and environmental destruction that they wreak. We call on our academic colleagues to condemn this war and the fossil fuel infrastructure that supports it. We are delighted to announce the themes and participants in our 2022 ASLE Spotlight series.
Each of our four ASLE Spotlight episodes will feature moderated conversations with ASLE members who have produced new critical and creative work in the environmental humanities. Episodes follow a theme, and highlight publicly engaged scholarship. They will be recorded for later viewing.

Subvention/Translation Grants Submission Instructions
ASLE is providing up to FIVE grants total this year to support EITHER subvention grants for innovative projects in ecocriticism and environmental humanities such as art installations, documentary film projects, digital humanities web projects, and book or article publication; OR translation grants funding a translation into English, or from English into other languages, of relevant ecocritical or environmental humanities work that has been previously published.
